U-TURNSHIPS CIC
A COMMUNITY INTEREST COMPANY
Uturnships CIC is a Community Interest Company that supports young people who have struggled in mainstream education or traditional pathways.
We use creativity as a tool for engagement, confidence-building, and progression, helping young people develop skills, qualifications, and real-world experience.
WHO ARE WE ?
WHAT WE DO?
We design and deliver creative, practical programmes that support learning, well-being, and employability.
Our work includes:
Creative Alternative Provision – arts-based education and engagement
Mentoring and Confidence-Building
Employability and Life Skills
Progression into Education, Training, or Work
VOLUNTARY / WORK EXPERIENCE
According to Thurrock Council statistics, the most recently published NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) rate for 16–19 year-olds is approximately 4.8%, which is higher than the England national average.
In response to this, we are proud to have provided voluntary and work experience opportunities for 120 young people between 2023 and 2025, supporting them in gaining skills, confidence, and pathways into education or employment.
CO-PRODUCTION
All of our projects are co-produced with young people at the forefront, ensuring their voices, ideas, and perspectives directly influence the planning and delivery of the work we do.
Since 2020, we have successfully co-produced:
64 events and activities
Directly impacting approximately 2,400 people
This approach ensures that young people play an active role in shaping initiatives that affect their communities.

Develop creative and practical skills
Improve employability and progression outcomes
U-Turnships CIC is a Social Enterprise & Alternative Provision working with disadvantaged young people aged 12–25 who have been marginalised by mainstream education, and therefore experience barriers to progression.
We provide mentorship and engagement by encouraging creative and artistic aspirations with a holistic approach.
Our work consists of one-to-one or group sessions, with an offer of recreational re-engagement or vocational activities.
We facilitate Arts Award qualifications from Bronze to Gold (Levels 1–3), with Gold level attainment consisting of UCAS points for University entry.
We also offer a range of ASDAN (Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network) and Ofqual-regulated qualifications on the specified RQF Framework.
Subjects include photography, videography, studio recording, podcasting, and more (anything art related).
Additionally, we offer Hair & Beauty tuition (make up, eye lashes, braiding, wig making), as well as physical activity and well-being sessions in the gym.
Our approach to mentorship extends beyond the provision, and we are also able to support young people with employability & life skills to ensure a pathway to further progression.
